Future Solutions Now

The Industrial Polymer consortium has been studying vehicle wheel handling at wheel manufacturing/finishing facilities in the USA.  We directed our attention to the multitude of designs and flaws of wheel spacers (or trays, dividers, stringers) used to stack and transport wheels via fork truck within the manufacturing plant.  The spacer is used to stack wheels vertically on their flanges in order to protect the wheel surface from debris contamination and damage prior to being painted.  Also, we wish to thank all participating wheel manufacturers/finishers for collaborating with us in addressing the wheel-handling requirements throughout the manufacturing process.

Following more than six years of study and development, we have designed, produced and successfully tested two polymer wheel spacer models and one compatible/general purpose skid addressing the needs of the wheel manufacturer to improve product quality by minimizing reworks and rejects due to surface contamination and damage.
